unWalled UI/UX // Labs Project
Technology Can be Invisible
Unwall is built on the idea that technology should remove barriers from the world around us. The beauty of the natural world is most often obstructed by the material structures designed to shelter and contain our lives. Rarely if ever are those structures beautiful in comparison to the natural environment they exist within. With high-definition exterior cameras, high-density LED strips (or fabric) and some basic programming, Unwall can make walls invisible.
This project was pitched with three proposed applications: retail space, museum/gallery, and interior design/lifestyle applications.
Retail Experience
Retail applications for show rooms and consumer goods "brick and mortars" can be activated with an innovative experience. With the addition of RFID tags on products and sensors throughout the space the concept can dramatically enhance an in-store shopping experience. Simple prompts can invite the shopper to define their intention. Beacons on products create a touch point to start a dialog with the shopper. High-density LED strips (or fabric), sensors, micro processors and some basic programming can turn an entire wall into a programmable surface capable of displaying everything from product details to an GUI a user can interact with anywhere within the store.
Museum / Gallery / Show Room
The "white box" captures the attention of participants and sets a tone that museums, galleries and show rooms leverage to tell a more compelling story. Projectors and large screens have so many limitations. The capacity to turn an entire wall into a seamless portal into dynamic content is a vital innovation.
